[As is usual, Elias's body doesn't move. But the screens across the room light up - some just in nervous, jumping static, others in sentences that jump over several before settling in ones near Fiddleford.]

i didn't mean for it to be like that
it went wrong
i tried to fix it
i really tried

[Does he know? Does he see? No eyes blink on the screens, but the colours jitter between abrupt neon flashes and soft, blue colours. Sometimes, they blink for moments to the black and green of a terminal, running lines in binary and hex too rapid to be read, let alone understood.]

[It takes a few seconds, but then:]

i couldn't stop her from bringing people
but i could try to make them not hers
and i can't stop the hunger for real
just make people not feel it
but i thought i could change what they had to eat
because it's already different things sometimes

this way they didn't have to kill people
they could just take bad parts
from monsters that she made go wrong
so it wasn't as bad
right?

and i gave them the network
so her monsters couldn't hurt them

but it stopped working
i don't know why
i felt something wrong when the machine started
i thought it wasn't a big something
i thought i could fix it
but they just kept going wrong
like what she did
so people go wrong when they don't kill a human for long enough

so i had to send them away
even though it didn't send them back
i did my best to fix everything else
